For years now I have had a passion for fabric. I have also always wanted to make my own quilt. It is time…

The fabric

As soon as I saw this fabric I knew it was the one … I was smitten. Perfect colours for my house with beautiful designs.

The fabric is Little Sweethearts by Andover and they blend so well together. I have only chosen eight of the collection plus a plain from Makower’s basic range as this is my very first quilt and I want to keep it simple.

I spent a very enjoyable day with my friend Julie from Time Machine Quilting who taught me the basics of quilting. Armed with my new knowledge I raced home and started to cut up my lovely fabric. I have chosen to do four different star blocks for this quilt and maybe some borders in between …. but that is still on the back burner for now.

The Blocks

For my first block I have used Fresh Berries Primrose for the centre piece with Windswept Rose for the star on a plain Antique Rose Basic background.

For my second the centre piece is Fresh Berries Crimson with Windswept Primrose for the star on the same plain Antique Rose Basic background.

The third has Peony Ballet Slipper for the centre with plain Antique Rose Basic for the star on the Ring Bearer raspberry background.

Lastly, the fourth square has Summer Field Blush for it’s centre piece with plain Antique Rose Basic for the star on the Ring Bearer Rosette background.

Hopefully when all the blocks are sewn together …. about 144 of them if I calculated correctly … they will look gorgeous.

I am nowhere near getting to that stage yet, I think this project will last me through the cold Winter months ahead.

Happy sewing!!
